8 Times Cher Horowitz was All of Us

In honor of Clueless’ 21st birthday today, I decided it was absolutely pertinent that I remind everyone of just how many different times throughout the movie Cher Horowitz was the most relatable character for our high school selves.

Learning to drive was harder than it looked. Finding out that it actually requires you to pay attention the whole time was an unpleasant discovery.

In a time where half of your friends are getting their first kisses and the other half are losing their virginities, peer pressure can be a real bitch. Sticking to your moral standards in high school is one of the hardest parts of being a teenage girl.

If you can honestly say you’ve never used the “Aunt Flow is visiting” excuse to get out of class, then you are a better woman than I. This excuse worked extremely well on male teachers. The word “period” is enough to make a grown man cringe.

First dates are awkward. First dates in your awkward teenage years are even worse. You tried everything in your power and spent hours getting ready hoping to look as hot as Jennifer Aniston for this dude who you swore looked like Jake Ryan from Sixteen Candles (when he actually probably looked like McLovin from Superbad). It almost never goes as smoothly as you imagined it would in your head.

And when that date doesn’t go as well as you’d hoped, your immediate reaction was to always question what the hell you did wrong. Obviously, the real reason was just that he was actually just gay. (Because this is always the reason, right?)

Just when you thought you were at your lowest point ever in life, someone always had the bright idea that shopping would fix everything. And let’s be honest, to a teenage girl, it probably did.

When your BFF’s ex moved on to another girl, the obvious first thing to do is tell her how disgusting and awful his new girlfriend is. She could have the legs of Carrie Underwood and Blake Lively’s flawless hair, but as far as the two of you were concerned she looked like Shrek.

While I’m sure you all spent the majority of your high school years chasing after boys like I did, the majority of the one’s who were chasing you were not the ones you wanted. Cher said is best – “Searching for a boy in high school is as useless as searching for meaning in a Pauly Shore movie.”

Here’s to you, Cher Horowitz. Thank you for 21 years of a burning envy for your closet, somewhat smart boy advice, and for providing me with the best comeback for any situation:
